Matthew 5:13 (KJV) Ye are the salt of the earth: but if the salt have lost his savour, wherewith shall it be salted? it is thenceforth good for nothing, but to be cast out, and to be trodden under foot of men.
God’s people are the “salt” of the earth, not the “pepper” or the “sugar”. The “you” here are those in God’s kingdom, those who have the good qualities, especially those who suffer for righteousness and Christ. But such people as “salt” do not make the world tasty to God! As “salt”, they are to make God’s word tasty to men. And as salt preserves things God’s people preserve the world from being totally corrupted, and from being destroyed by God’s anger.
“Trodden underfoot by men”– Christianity without good qualities are useless and deserves to be rejected and destroyed.
