Psalms 31:1-3 (KJV) In thee, O LORD, do I put my trust; let me never be ashamed: deliver me in thy righteousness.
Bow down thine ear to me; deliver me speedily: be thou my strong rock, for an house of defence to save me.
For thou art my rock and my fortress; therefore for thy name’s sake lead me, and guide me.
David had enemies always on the prowl, and he felt cornered on many occasions. He found safety and protection in the Lord, and he continually asked for help while lifting sweet praises to His name. We also praise the Lord for His presence in our times of trouble. Satan is always ready to attack our spirits by bringing hurt and turmoil into our lives. In God, we find peace, comfort, and safety. He protects our hearts with His love and guides our spirit through faith.
Psalms 31:4 (KJV) Pull me out of the net that they have laid privily for me: for thou art my strength.
Traps will be set for believers. Even if men don’t, Satan will.
Psalms 31:5 (KJV) Into thine hand I commit my spirit: thou hast redeemed me, O LORD God of truth.
The first part of this verse was quoted by the Lord Jesus as He died on the cross ( LUKE 23:46 ), also by many believers since then as they faced death. We may be sure that God will carefully keep and guard what we have committed to Him ( 1PETER 4:19 ). It is the height of wisdom to put our spirit, our life, our eternity in God’s hands. What God redeems is His special property. He knows how to look after it. “God of truth” is one of God’s precious names. He is absolutely true to His Word. It is impossible for Him to lie ( TITUS 1:2 ). And He hates all lying and deception.
