1 Corinthians 10:13 (KJV) There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.
Temptations will “take hold of” believers as they do everyone else. But believers have a promise that others do not have, and a very great promise it is. God will never let any temptation be so powerful, so great that a believer cannot resist it. He will always provide a way out. He is always faithful. Of course, we must want that way and look for it. Otherwise we may not see it. If we want to be overcome because the sin we are tempted to do is pleasing to us, then we are in grave danger of falling. If we fall into sin we should never try to accuse God of allowing a temptation we could not resist.
Matthew 6:13 (KJV) And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil: For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever. Amen.
